🌱 A Universal Charitable Deduction Is Back & Bigger

For the first time since 2021, all taxpayers—whether they itemize or not—can claim a charitable deduction: up to $1,000 for couples or $500 for individuals. That’s a meaningful shift, especially for smaller donors who give from the heart. When a similar $300 deduction was offered during the COVID-19 pandemic, over 90 million Americans took advantage of it—proof that even modest incentives can move the needle.

💸 New Giving Math for Major Donors and Corporations

While the bill boosts giving incentives for the many, it introduces new policies for the few giving the most. Key changes include:

• A cap on itemized deductions for high-income donors

• A new 0.5% AGI floor for charitable deductions

• A 1% income floor for corporate charitable deductions

In practice, these changes mean that only giving above those baselines is deductible, and some donors may see reduced tax benefits even if their generosity stays the same. That makes timing and strategy more important than ever. Tools like gift bunching and donor-advised funds — which allow donors to group multiple years’ worth of contributions into a single deduction event — are now even more valuable.
